Brightbill: I still won't belong.
Roz: I understand.
Brightbill: you don't understand anything, you don't feel anything. you are not my mom.
―Brightbill's most famous quote as he disowns Roz for her failures for raising him and not teaching him how to fly like a normal goose, and for her and fink lying about his real family's fate.

Brightbill is the tritagonist of DreamWorks Animation's 2024 feature film The Wild Robot.

When Roz accidentally knocked out trees and killed Brightbill's mom leaving her egg survived the crash. Brightbill's story begins when he was just a chick after his family was taken by tragedy. Being a parent isn't in Roz's programming, but that really isn't up to her once an infant Brightbill imprints on her. Raising Brightbill takes a village, essentially since he was the runt of his respective litter, but as he grows up and nears adulthood, Roz will do everything in her power to see him grow up right. After Roz was chased by Thorn the grizzly bear, she falls from a cliff and crashes with trees, which falls and ends up killing a family of goose. However, only one goose egg survived. Roz tries to protect the egg but was stolen by Fink the fox with the intention of eating it. After a long chase, Fink is finally stopped when he landed on a porcupine, stinging him with thorns. Roz plucks of the thorns off Fink and let him go.

Very soon, the egg started cracking, with Roz trying to stop it but to no avail. The egg cracks and a gosling come out, which imprints on Roz at the first sight. The moment the gosling touched Roz's forehead, she started feel a strange connection, but shrugs it off, and asks the gosling if it was satisfied with her task, scaring the gosling. Roz starts to walk away to get signal for her transponder, and the gosling followed her, with Roz attempting in various ways to stop him. However, when Roz was about to activate her transponder when she finally got signal, the gosling pecks it and breaks it, much to Roz's annoyance. She puts the gosling on an opossum named Pinktail, who was carrying her kids. She and her kids discover the gosling amongst them, and suddenly spot Roz and falls to the ground pretending to be dead. However, they notice Roz is not attacking them, and Pinktail goes to Roz about the gosling, and Roz tells the issue. Pinktail informs her that gosling imprint on the first thing they see, which in its case was Roz, which means she was his mother. Roz tries to deny about taking care of the gosling, but suddenly accepts when she was told that taking care of the gosling was her task.

Pinktail explains Roz what to do with the gosling to prepare him for migration and went on her way. At first, Roz tried to complete the task in the most unusual ways for an animal, and gets confused. Very soon she was met by Fink, whose help she denied at first as she wanted to eat the egg. However, she accepts when he decides to help with the gosling. Initially, Fink started to get advantage of Roz and the gosling to get food for himself, but at the end he exposes some worms for the gosling to eat. While training the gosling to swim but failing to do so, Fink informs Roz that the gosling is a runt and his chances to be fully prepared for migration wasn't high, and also informs her that even if his family survived, he might've not lived long enough.

While preparing a shelter, the gosling started to get out his first words. At first Roz started to give him weird names such as Gosling 0001 and Gosling 0186, but eventually settled on the name Brightbill. Brightbill helped Roz in a way to finish the shelter. When it was time for the trio to sleep, Fink tells Brightbill a story to put him to sleep.

Months pass, and Brightbill grows up into a young goose. At first, he was having trouble to befriend anyone as his behaviors were strange due to having a robot as his caretaker. Fink and Roz take him to a pond to train him to swim, where he met the other geese from the Island Flock. He tries to befriend them, but they bully and criticize him for being a runt. They even humiliate him when he calls Roz his "Mom" and admits the truth that the robot was responsible for his family's death, leading to Fink to try to attack them but to be hold by Roz. Back at the shelter, Brightbill disowns Roz for lying to him about his real family.

By the end of the movie, Brightbill reunited with Roz who ultimately recognized and nuzzled with him.
