Am I the son of a panda? The son of a goose? A student? A teacher? Turns out... all of it. I am the Dragon Warrior.
―Po confronting Kai in the Spirit Realm.

Po is the protagonist of DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is a giant panda who is one of Master Shifu's students, Mr. Ping's adoptive son, and Li Shan's biological son. He is also the Dragon Warrior, who is the one destined to bring a new era of kung fu. While prone to clumsiness, Po is also a prodigy who becomes one of the greatest kung fu masters of all time and succeeds in bringing about a new era.

Background

Li Shan protecting an infant Po from Shen's wolf Army.

Po was born as Lotus Li in a remote farming village in southern China, inhabited by pandas. It was there that he spent part of his infant life happily with his father Li Shan and an unnamed mother. One winter night, however, the village came under attack by an army of wolves under the command of a power-hungry peacock named Lord Shen, who sought to eliminate all pandas in China. As Shen and his wolf followers set the village ablaze and massacred almost every panda, the Boss Wolf charged at Lotus, who was sitting in the middle of the chaos, but Li stood in the way and whacked him away with a rake, permanently damaging the wolf's left eye. While he stayed behind to fight back, his wife picked up their son and carried him with her into the surrounding forest with the other fleeing villagers. The peacock and his wolf minions gave chase, eventually catching up with most of the panda runaways, but Po's mother evaded them and came to a ship docked on the bank of a nearby river preparing to depart with crates of vegetables as cargo. With no time to lose she placed Po in one of the radish crates and bade farewell to him before returning to lure Shen and the wolves away, sacrificing her own life.

Po and the crate of radishes he was hidden in was sadly shipped to the other side of China, miles from home, to a suburban village in the Valley of Peace, where the local noodle shop's owner, Mr. Ping, discovered the panda cub. Although reluctant to get involved at first, the goose pitied for Lotus and took him inside feed him and gave him a bath. As Ping continued to feel caring for him, he grew to love the cub and decided to adopt him after realizing that nobody was going to look for such a child, giving him the name "Po" and raising him as his own son. Years went by, and Po grew into adulthood as chef and waiter at the noodle shop, learning noodle-making from his adoptive father. He never questioned Ping about whether or not he was adopted since they both shared deep love and respect for each other, but did have doubts that they were related.

Personality

Po is usually easygoing, playful, and cocky like a big kid, as well as rather "fanboyish" when expressing his love for kung fu. In the first film, he is seen as a huge kung fu fan, owning posters and action figures of his favorite warriors, but is himself clumsy, portly, and having low self-confidence, only dreaming he could be a great warrior while feeling stuck in his unfulfilling life at his father's noodle shop. But when given the chance, he is all too eager to learn kung fu the hard way, enduring physical beatings and insults in hopes of changing who he is. After learning that "there is no secret ingredient", Po shows the inner strength to save the Valley of Peace by using his own skills and ingenuity and in the end becomes his own hero.

Po possesses a kind and selfless nature, and is generally friendly and laid-back. He also has a strong sense of justice, and is willing to risk his life to protect others. Though immature and oblivious in some situations, Po is able to take things seriously when it is called for, and is not hesitant to accept heavy responsibility—at times taking on more than he can handle. He is also capable of learning things very quickly with the right motivation, as shown in the first film, and has memorized a vast amount of knowledge about kung fu, even being reliable enough to teach a class on his own.

Po also displays an action-craving attitude along with a natural affinity for humor, and isn't above acting clownish and dishing out quips, even making fun of himself, in order to entertain others. Imaginative and adventurous, he continues to act excitable and marvel over his heroes even after he has become the Dragon Warrior, at times leaving them embarrassed by his behavior. As Po tends to be less serious and disciplined than other masters, he also tends to think more outside the box, and will find different, creative ways to solve a problem if need be. Po has also broken some rules and traditions (as well as still having a habit of breaking physical things), though this is often unintentional. Po's lack of discipline and flippant personality often give him an unintentional advantage over his enemies, since, combined with his appearance, it causes them to disregard him or struggle to take him seriously, so they are often shocked when he proves to be a tenacious and incredibly skilled warrior.

One of the recurring plot lines in the television series is Po's struggle to not let his title affect his ego. Throughout the series, he is shown to have many adoring fans and he welcomes the attention, occasionally to the point that it begins to negatively impact his duties or those around him. Despite this, he also possesses the self-awareness to realize when he has made a mistake, and is willing to accept responsibility for his actions.

Though having grown more confident since becoming the Dragon Warrior, Po nevertheless has moments of intimidation and self-doubt. Even as he tries to talk tough, this boisterous behavior tends to become more comical than threatening, and is perhaps a front for the panda's insecurities. Despite this, Po does have a sense of dignity and defiance, as shown in the first film when he argued with Master Shifu as he tried to leave the palace, and in the second film when he argued with Tigress in order to seek out Shen.

Additionally in the second film, Po was revealed to be rather stubborn when it comes to admitting his problems, even to his friends, as he developed confusion about his own identity after learning he was adopted by Mr. Ping, and seeing visions of his biological parents. This inner struggle showed that Po tries to stay true to his idea of a strong "hardcore" warrior who is unaffected by emotions. He was also persistent enough to not heed the warning of his friends and endanger himself in order to find answers about his past. However, after finding the truth about what happened to his parents, the panda was able to let go of this dilemma by retaining an appreciation for the life he had led, and achieved inner peace by not letting tragedy define who he was.

In the third film, as Po is continuously pushed to his limits, first by Shifu making him the Master of the Furious Five and then the arrival of Kai and subsequent defeat of most of his friends, as well as having found his biological father and having to please both him and Ping, Po finally starts to reveal how for all his lightheartedness and optimism, he is not without limits. While confident in his fighting ability, Po is forced to reflect inwardly and rely on his mind and spirit in order to fully understand himself and, therefore, master Chi. He approached the challenge enthusiastically and diligently, but displayed anger, frustration, and doubt when Li admitted to lying. Po was quick to forgive his father, and, quickly adapts to his circumstances to defeat Kai.

Po has not only matured since his days before learning kung fu, but his unlikely triumph as the Dragon Warrior has changed those around him. Simple, good-natured, and fueled by determination, Po has never held grudges, not even against those who doubt him or treat him with contempt, and is selfless when it comes to protecting those in need, even being able to show compassion for his enemies. Po is much like the opposite of the foes he faces, such as Tai Lung, Shen, and Kai, in that he shows lightheartedness and humility instead of arrogance and desire for more power. It is these qualities, as well as his great respect for kung fu and his loving heart, that mark Po as the Dragon Warrior, able to defeat such villains when no one else could.

Physical Appearance

Po wears a simple pair of burlap pants that consists of patchwork done in different colors, which occasionally sags down Po's waist. He also wears a striped red-and-gold strap around his waist, wraps around his ankles, and sandal-like shoes.

In Kung Fu Panda Holiday, Po's casual winter clothes consisted of a red snow hat with yellow-dotted black stripes and a yellow scarf. At the Jade Palace's formal Winter Feast dinner, Po wore his same pants, but with a tall dark coronet-like hat on his head and a large dark cape around his neck.

At one point in Kung Fu Panda 2, Po also wore a small straw hat for a short time when he went to confront Shen's fleet in Gongmen City.

In Kung Fu Panda 3, Po is shown in a new outfit that appears to match his fur, with a white robe that has black trimming, and long, black sleeves trimmed with gold. With this, he wears a long gold cape, a red sash across his waist, and a straw hat. This appearance greatly resembles that of the dream Po from the first film, and only appears when Po is in the Spirit Realm. While there, Po was also eventually given a special staff by Oogway himself.

Po was having a dream about being a Legendary Kung Fu Warrior that approaches a tavern to have some dumplings, until he begin to fight bandits who were harassing the rabbit staff and would soon be joined by the Furious Five to defeat an entire army of thousands of bandits where Po uses the Sword of Heroes and leads the five into battle, until he was waken up by his father, Mr. Ping who told him that he'll be late for work. When Po wakes up after having a dream, he looks through all the merchandise in his room, runs down stairs and lies that he dreamt about noodles, that leads Mr. Ping into believing his son finally had the noodle dream and was ready to run the noodle shop, but Po wonders why they couldn't try something else, beside noodles. However, Mr. Ping admitted that when he was "young and crazy", he dreamed of running away to make tofu, but gave up on it because it was a "stupid dream" and believed it was best if they stick with the noodles, leaving Po to wonder if he could ever have to chance to learn about Kung Fu.

While waiting the tables, Po becomes excited that a tournament was announced across the Valley of Peace to be held at the Jade Palace, where Grand Master Oogway would choose the Dragon Warrior. As Po urged all of the restaurant's patrons to go watch, Mr. Ping saw the event as a great opportunity to sell noodles. Knowing that everyone in the Valley would be there, he gave Po the noodle cart where he sells everyone noodles. But when Po thought about telling his father the truth, he instead thought about selling some bean buns before leaving to the Jade Palace where he had to walk up large stairs that would take hours while dragging the wagon with him. Po leaves the wagon to get himself a souvenir, but before running out of energy, the doors were closed and Po didn't have the skills to break them down or go through them. But when Oogway was about to choose the Dragon Warrior, Po was not going to miss this and uses fireworks to make it pass the walls before being interfered with his dad who learns the truth about his son not dreaming about noodles and loves Kung Fu, before Po flies in the air and lands on the ground where Oogway suddenly points at him, and says that the universe has brought Po as the Dragon Warrior, much to everyones confusion.

Po's first training doesn't go well.

While being praised as the Dragon Warrior, Po was swiftly brought up to the Jade Palace on a palanquin and left alone inside the Hall of Warriors. While admiring the many artifacts, Po encountered Master Shifu, who was furious that an inexperience panda had been chosen over his students and accidentally broke the Urn of Whispering Warriors while trying to speak to it before he was approached by Shifu. Shifu insulted the panda about being too fat of learning Kung Fu and to be the Dragon Warrior and even threatened him with the Wuxi Finger Hold in order to pressure him into quitting and about being chosen as the Dragon Warrior by Oogway, but Po remained determined. The two then visited the Training Hall where thought he couldn't do all the tricks the Furious Five were working on, and thought about starting with the Adversary punching dummy, but after hitting it too hard, Po lands on the training course, where he failed spectacularly in every single stage except the Seven-Talon Rings.

On their way to the Student barracks, Po overhears the Five joke about his incompetence while following them to their rooms where h accidentally enters Crane's room and annoyed Monkey who was meditating. Later, Tigress even tells him directly that he is a disgrace to kung fu and that, if he actually respected Kung fu and what the Furious Five represent, he should leave before telling her that he is a big fan. Po, disheartened by his heroes' comments, retreated to the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom where he gobbles himself with peaches while being upset. Oogway, upon finding him, listened to Po as the panda related how he had doubts about ever becoming a kung fu warrior, because he was nothing like the Furious Five since he doesn't have their skills, and believes he should quit and go back to make noodles. But Oogway advises Po that instead of being concerned about what was and what would be, he should focus on the opportunity he had at the moment when Oogway chose him.

The next morning, the others find that Po is not in his room and believe he left only to find he was already in the training courtyard. Shifu, still trying to get rid of Po, does not go easy on him. Po spars with the Five (sans Tigress) and is badly beaten each time, but still remains enthusiastic. Losing patience, Shifu himself spars with Po. Po is flung down the palace stairs, but his determination and fortitude impress some of the Five. Later that night, Mantis and Viper are the first to reach out to Po and begin to treat his injuries. During the acupuncture session, the three talk about Shifu and why he is so harsh. Overhearing their conversation, Tigress shares Shifu's story, revealing how he had raised Tai Lung as a son and had his heart broken by Tai Lung's betrayal, because Oogway only saw darkness in him about becoming the Dragon Warrior and have the Dragon Scroll. Later, Po and the Five continue to bond over the noodle soup that Po makes them, though Tigress is still resistant. While making the Five laugh by doing a Shifu impersonation, Shifu himself appears.

Po tells Shifu that he stayed in hopes of someone changing him.

Shifu announces that Tai Lung had broken out of Chorh-Gom Prison, and that it is Po's destiny to defeat him, also relaying that Oogway had passed away. Startled and frightened, Po runs off but is stopped by Shifu who, despite his prior disapproval, declares that Po is the Dragon Warrior. Po confronts Shifu on this claim, stating how Shifu never believed in him, and had been trying to make him quit, until Shifu asked him to trust in his master like he trusts in his, but Po did not accept Shifu as his master or himself being the Dragon Warrior. Shifu then demands to know why Po hadn't left despite being aware of his intentions that Shifu was trying to get rid of him, yet he stayed, forcing Po to reveal that he had been hurt both inside and out, but had stayed because, to him, it was better than living every day just being himself and that, in his mind, Shifu had the best chance of bringing out any change in him. Shifu said he can change Po and turns him into the Dragon Warrior, but when Po demands to know how Shifu planned to make him into a warrior capable of defeating Tai Lung who is on his way to the valley, Shifu admits he didn't know. Tigress overheard the argument and she and rest of the five left to defeat Tai Lung themselves and without a permission.

Next morning, Po was in the kitchen kicking things and eating cookies due to the fact that he was upset about last night, and was found by Shifu who revealed to him that Monkey hides his almond cookies on the top shelf, and Po climbs up to the shelf and eats all of Monkey's cookies. Shifu was impressed how Po got up there and did a perfect split, and finally found a way to train Po and takes him to the Wu Dan Mountains where they head to the Pool of Sacred Tears, the place where Oogway unraveled the mysteries of harmony and focus, making this the birthplace of Kung Fu. If Po wants to learns Kung Fu, he must accept Shifu as his master, which he finally accepts. Despite not training Po the way he trained the five, Shifu can train him with food, and only allows him to eat when the training is over. Using food to motivate him, Po's skills and strength begin to develop. Po was finally doing a good job of learning Kung Fu from Shifu and he was ready to become the Dragon Warrior. As a final test, Po must steal back the dumpling that Shifu is keeping from him. In the end, Po is able to beat Shifu, but turns out Po wasn't hungry at all, and finally accepts Shifu as his master, and they two bow to each other in mutual respect.

But the Furious Five, led by Tigress, had left to fight Tai Lung on their own. Despite putting up a courageous fight, Tai Lung had defeated them using a nerve attack. Crane had been permitted to return with the wounded Five in order to scare Po who believes he would not be able to defeat Tai Lung since he is only a panda and five are legendary Kung Fu masters, but Shifu assured him that he could beat Tai Lung with the help of the Dragon Scroll and finally calls him by his name. Using Oogway's staff and peach leaves to get the Dragon Scroll, Shifu opens it for Po since he wasn't able to do so and was ready to read it. However, when Po opened the scroll, everyone was shocked to find it was nothing but a golden, reflective surface that was completely blank, causing Po to believe that Oogway was a crazy old turtle who had picked him as the Dragon Warrior by accident. With no legendary powers to help them, Shifu orders the Five to evacuate the Valley, saying that he would fight Tai Lung himself to buy them all time, but Po feared Tai Lung would kill him, Shifu believed if Tai Lung did so, he would finally pay for his mistakes and was very happy to be master to them.

The Five split up to escort the villagers out while Po returned to his father to help him pack and leave. Po, heartbroken that he had come so close to reaching his dream only to be forced to return to his mundane life, falls behind and reunites with his dad. Mr. Ping felt bad for Po that it didn't work out and thought it was best if they just forgot about it and that they are noodle people, but sometimes Po doesn't feel like he is actually Mr. Ping's son. So Mr. Ping tried to cheer up his son by finally telling him the truth: the secret ingredient of the noodle shop's secret ingredient soup—was nothing. By Mr. Ping simply believing it to be special, it became special on its own. Astounded, Po took out the Dragon Scroll, and found himself looking into his own reflection. Mr. Ping's words made the connection, and at last Po understood the meaning of the Dragon Scroll, the secret to "limitless power". That makes Po believes he could finally have the change of showing his Kung Fu skills and prove that he is the Dragon Warrior to the Valley of Peace and must help Shifu defeat Tai Lung before it's too late.

He made his way back to the Jade Palace, and arrived just in time to save Shifu. Facing Tai Lung who easily defeats Shifu and nearly kills him while demanding to know where the Dragon Scroll is, an out-of breath Po proclaimed that he was the true Dragon Warrior that Tai Lung was expecting and learned his name while fighting the Furious Five. Tai Lung laughed at the claim when he believes the panda was going to sit on him, and Po smugly revealed that he had the Dragon Scroll in his possession and going to use it to challenge Tai Lung into combat. This lead to a back-and-forth struggle for the scroll which soon turned into a battle that spread down into the Valley, both Po and Tai Lung trying to get the Dragon Scroll as it fell from place to place. Po used noodles to take the scroll back and then fireworks to reach out for Tai Lung when he begin to follow the scroll. When it lands on the top of a house, Po imagines that it is a cookies and begins to climb the house before Tai Lung punched a wall and the scroll flew a way. When Po grabs it, Tai Lung pins him down and easily defeats him after brutally pushing him.

Physically, Tai Lung was stronger, faster and more agile, however, by using all of his own trials and tribulations, Po kept the kung fu prodigy at bay. Despite Po's ongoing success, Tai Lung manages to get a strong kick crashing the Dragon Warrior into the ground and then fell down on him with enough force and momentum to leave a crater. A defeated and momentarily stunned Po watched Tai Lung get a hold of the scroll and open it, only to be shocked that it was blank. Po reveals to Tai Lung the meaning behind the scroll, that in just believing you are special is enough. Infuriated, Tai Lung throws down the Dragon Scroll and uses his deadly nerve attack on Po, but it doesn't work on Po due to his girth. Again, the two fought, Po besting and outsmarting Tai Lung again and again, developing his own improvised style in the process. His greater durability proved to infuriate the angered Tai Lung. Eventually, Po catches Tai Lung in the Wuxi Finger Hold and uses it on him, sending a massive golden shock wave throughout the Valley of Peace and beyond.

When the Furious Five and villagers saw something was happening in the valley, they return to see that Po defeated Tai Lung by revealing himself as their savior, and they all cheer and bow to him, accepting him as the Dragon Warrior, including his father who was very proud of his son becoming a Kung Fu warrior and the savior of the Valley of Peace. Po was modestly pleased when Tigress called him a master along with everyone else, but quickly remembered that Shifu was hurt back at the palace. He rushed back and found Shifu still injured, and told him he had defeated Tai Lung. Realizing that Oogway was right all along and the Po was the Dragon Warrior, Shifu weakly thanked him for bringing peace both to the Valley and to him before closing his eyes. Po feared Shifu was dying, but he was all right, and just found peace. Po lays next to the resting Shifu for several moments before asking him if he wanted to get something to eat, which the former later accepts. He and Shifu later enjoyed a meal of dumplings by the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom, overlooking a new day in the Valley of Peace, while a plant that Oogway planted that night he died begin to grow.

Secrets of the Furious Five

Po was assigned by Shifu to teach an introduction to kung fu class for a group of rambunctious rabbit children. Fortunately for Po, it didn' take him long to bring the class to order and for the children to calm down, and he began to emphasize to them that combat was only part of what kung fu is about, while its true meaning is "excellence of self". To illustrate his point, he used the stories of the Furious Five's individual pasts and the basic philosophical concepts that they learned that enabled them to be great kung fu masters. In the end, Shifu returned to see Po's anticipated lack of progress in teaching and was surprised that he underestimated Po's talents yet again, considering how much the panda's students had learned. But when the rabbit children asked Po how his first day of kung fu was, all of the unpleasant memories during the first film flashed through his head, to which he responded by saying that it was "totally awesome."

Kung Fu Panda Holiday

It was the time of the Winter Festival, and Po was informed by Master Shifu in noodle shop that he was to host the Winter Feastat the Jade Palace. The Furious Five were surprised when Po told them this news, and offered to help him prepare for the sophisticated dinner. However, Po was confident that he could do it himself, and was excited about the chance to host the formal gathering. But soon enough, he became overwhelmed by the many tasks of preparing for the Feast, and was burdened further by not being able to have his father come to the event.

After accidentally rejecting and disgracing a rabbit chef named Wo Hop with the "Hun-Shu Wave of Dismissal", Po decided to intentionally dismiss the other chefs trying out for the Feast by tasting and saying their dishes were awful and he later offered the job to his father, along with the Golden Ladle, in hopes that the two of them could spend the holiday together. However, Mr. Ping refused, stating he couldn't be away from the restaurant and let his customers down. After Po told him he couldn't be home during the holiday, Mr. Ping grudgingly told him to to the palace feast, resulting in Po feeling guilty.

Afterwards in the palace kitchen, Po was challenged by Wo Hop to a fight to the death in order to restore his honor, and the rabbit chef made several attempts to attack Po and end his own life, the panda preventing him from doing so again and again. After several disasters (including the kitchen being set of fire and an ice dragon sculpture being beheaded), Po fell into despair, believing that he had disappointed everyone. After a comment from Wo Hop about kung fu being unable to solve everything, Po decided to call on the Furious Five and Wo Hop to help him in his preparations for the Feast. With their extra efforts, everything came together just in time. Tending to a last-minute detail, Po left to fetch some ground jasmine and saw the village houses decorated with colorful lanterns, and was sullen at seeing families together for their own feasts.

Later, when seated with Shifu, the Five, and the visiting kung fu masters at the Jade Palace, Po was complimented by Shifu for creating the perfect feast. However, Po himself was unhappy as he sat with his fellow masters, and found that he could not enjoy the ceremony, as much as he admired the kung fu heroes present. He explained to them his own traditions of having fun with his family, friends, and neighbors during the holiday. He then politely excused himself (much to Shifu's dismay), and then ran off to join his father at the noodle shop.

At the shop, Mr. Ping was pleased to see him, and apologized to Po for making him feel guilty, and Po offered to help him cook. They then worked together to make several bowls of holiday-themed noodle soup for the customers, who cheered for them. The Furious Five and the visiting masters later showed up at the restaurant and took part in the festivities as well. Po also presented the Golden Ladle to Wo Hop (whom had shown up to try and attack Po again), restoring honor to him and his home village.

Shifu also came to the noodle shop, still upset that Po had "ruined" the palace feast, but upon seeing the happy celebration taking place inside, Shifu came to appreciate Po's decision. When spotted by the panda, the master was invited inside, and though reluctant to join in the feast, Po insisted, telling him that he was part of his family as well. They joined the others, posing for a group portrait, and Po was able to appease everyone, thanks of his unorthodox, yet sincere actions.

Some time after battle with Tai Lung and defeating him, Po is finally living his dream, having proved himself as the Dragon Warrior and earned the friendship of the Furious Five, and also moved from his dad's noodle shop into the Jade Palace to pursue his duty as the Dragon Warrior and true hero of China. Po also has become famous due to the fact that he saved the Valley of Peace and was adored by many of his fans, including children who were playing with action figures of him and the Furious Five. Inside the Training Hall where no one was training today, Po was first seen on a bean buns competition with the Furious Five where he hit the top score of 38 buns inside his mouth, smashing his fist on the table. Po was then challenged to stuff 40 bean buns into his mouth, despite believing he wouldn't be able to do it, but Tigress urged him to do so, and Po begin to stuff two more into his mouth. When he succeeded, the Five cheered for him, with Crane slapping his back, causing him to spit all the beans at his friends. Po is then complimented by Tigress.

However, Shifu reminds Po that there is still much to learn, so he heads out of the Training Room to meet up with Shifu. In the Dragon Grotto where his master was meditating, Po thought there were pirates on their way, but Shifu actually shows Po the technique of catching and guiding a water droplet without breaking it. Shifu explains that achieving inner peace was the only way this technique could be mastered, and that it was the next step in Po's training. Po was amazed by this technique, and Shifu stated how inner peace allowed one to do the seemingly-impossible. The day when Po was chosen by Grand Master Oogway as the Dragon Warrior was the worst day of Shifu's life, until the former found inner peace since Shifu realized the problem not with Po, but within him. Realizing that he must find inner peace like Shifu, Po felt himself ready to start his training towards inner peace. But before finishing the lesson, Po and the Five were called into action to protect Musicians' Village from bandits. He assured Shifu that he would master inner peace as soon as he returned from the bandits' attack.

Po rushed to the Musicians' Village, being picked up by Crane. He runs alongside his comrades and arrived in time to meet the bandits: a wolf pack led by their alpha leader Boss Wolf, who was also surprised to see a panda as the Dragon Warrior. The wolves were not here to harm or kill anyone in the village, but are searching for metal for Lord Shen, who will use it to lethal needs that no one is aware of. With proficient skills, Po managed to fight off many wolves, showing that his trained had payed off during his training with Master Shifu of becoming the Dragon Warrior in the first place. Po and the Five worked together to drive off the invading pack of wolves, but as the battle neared its end, Po noticed a symbol on the lead wolf's armor that somehow shocks Po when he saw it. This triggered a flashback of his mother's face and himself as a newborn panda baby crying as his mother was running away and leaves him behind, distracting Po long enough to take the wolf's hammer to the face, knocking him down and allowing the wolf to escape with all the metal that they have stolen. Po was confused about what he saw and abruptly left to figure out what was ever happening during his fight with Boss Wolf and his pack.

Not knowing what to make of his vision, Po speaks to his father Mr. Ping. He asked his father where he came from, with Mr. Ping explaining how goose give birth, insisting for Po to not ask where the egg comes from. However, Po saw through his father's excuses. During their converstion, Mr. Ping reveals that Po is adopted and that he found Po as a baby in a radish crate that had been delivered to the restaurant. Mr. Ping eventually decided to take in Po as his adoptive son, making his living on soup and taking care of Po. Po wants to know more, but Mr. Ping has no more information, leaving Po troubled about his past and wondered why his dad never told him anything finally begin to wonder how he managed to get into the noodle shop and where he'd come from. His adoptive father reminded him that though his story may not have such a happy beginning, he is currently having a happy life now. However, Po is still troubled about how he managed to fit in a tiny radish basket, why he didn't want to wear pants and who he truly is since he is adopted and has never seen another panda in a long time. But Mr. Ping does not know anything else.

Some time later, Shifu received a message that Master Thundering Rhino of Gongmen City had been killed by a powerful weapon crafted by Lord Shen, which was capable of making kung fu obsolete. Po and the others were shocked at these news, not believing them to be true. Shifu then told Po and the Furious Five to go to Gongmen City, destroy the weapon, and defeat Shen, though Po was concerned about how they would be able to "stop something that stops kung fu," to which Shifu advised him that anything was possible—if he had inner peace. Po smiled and departed. But before Po and the Five could leave the Valley, they are stopped by Mr. Ping, who gives Po a backpack of comfort items for the road. While Mr. Ping reminisces about Po's childhood, Po's conflicting feelings of where he came from and where he belongs deepen. Po told his father he had to go, to which Mr. Ping wished for Po to not embark on the mission, but Po remarked that it was his responsibility to save kung fu, and that his identity relied on that. When Mr. Ping affirms that Po, with or without kung fu, would always be his son, Po is unable to return the sentiment. Po bids his father goodbye as he and the Five leave, but his troubling thoughts follow him through their travels.

One night while sleeping on a river in a small boat, Po dreams about his parents replacing him with a radish. He found himself in a forest and turned and spotted his parents walking away from him. He began running after them excitedly. However, Po's parents stopped and turned to him, with his father expressing annoyance at his return. Po is confused by his father's tone. His mother unwrapped a bundle slightly to reveal a large radish. The radish rushed at Po and gave him a thorough kung fu beating. As Po is on the ground, the radish lunged. It suddenly formed into a glowing red eye, and Po wakes in distress. On the deck, Po mumbled furiously to himself the word "radish". In frustration, Po punched the mast and saw that water is dripping from the mast above. He began making tai chi movements similar to Shifu's. Another drop hits Po's head and scowls but tries again. Po kept trying, getting more infuriated as the waterdrops continued to interrupt him. Po furiously punched the mast repeatedly as his frustration got the better of him. He briefly stopped, and a large amount of water drenched him. Po looked up with silent anger, and enraged, Po began head butting the mast. Tigress noticed his absence and goes to speak with him. She asked Po on why he is with them. He explained to her the situation of finding out that Mr. Ping is not his biological father, which doesn't shock her. Tigress asked him if it bothered him, but Po avoided the idea of being affected by not knowing who his real parents are. Just as Po begins to open up, their conversation is cut short when the others join them and they arrive at their destination.

Once in Gongmen City, they find that the wolves that had raided the Musicians' Village had taken over the city, harassing the citizens. Po also spotted Boss Wolf, the same wolf that hammered Po the day of the attack. He and the Five attempt to silently sneak inside the city, avoiding the wolves. Somehow, Po clumsily made his way inside a dragon costume. Po began looking for his friends, they eventually getting inside the costume, with Po smacking Monkey. Po is questioned by Crane regarding his stealth mode, Po exclaiming its, "not one of my stronger modes". Po and the Five sneak into the city disguised in the giant dragon costume. They continued strolling around the streets until they see a wolf threatening a sheep citizen, who Po managed to swiftly beaten up. The citizen informs them that Storming Ox and Croc were being kept inside Gongmen Jail. They locate the jail and find the masters within, and once inside, but the duo refuse to leave their cell, stating that Shen will use the weapon on the city if they do. Ox attempted to talk Po out of the idea of enlisting their aid in defeating Shen, expressing, "kung fu is dead", which shocked Po as part of his identity was in danger of dying out but refused to give up hope on the mission. When they are noticed by the wolves, Boss Wolf flees the scene after Monkey and Crane brought down the other wolves, forcing Po and the Five to chase after him. Po spotted a rickshaw cart nearby and started chasing Boss Wolf with it, who had also jumped onto a rickshaw cart. Boss Wolf's cart took a sharp turn into a nearby alley, and Po is moving too fast and went straight past, but with Viper's aid, he managed to swing round and into the alley.

Po eventually catches the wolf, but their chase leads them to Shen's palace, where all of Shen's wolves surrounded them. Po surrenders and he and the Five are put in cuffs, though he assures his friends that he has a plan. Po placed Mantis in a little cage. The captured warriors are being lead across the palace courtyard, where Po is questioned by Tigress regarding his plan, but he assures her it's a good plan. To their horror, they come across Thundering Rhino's damaged hammer standing on the other end like a macabre trophy, and eventually reach the stairs, which to Po's loathe, they climbed. Po ended up being carried by one of the gorillas, eventually making it to the throne room. While Shen tried to present himself to Po, the Soothsayer approached and examined him. Po and the Furious Five are taken to Shen, who laughs at the sight of Po in chains. Po embarrassed himself as he destroyed a tiny model of the cannon only to see the real cannon in front of him. Shen taunts Po at his failure in planning when he had "a lifetime to plot his revenge." Po began to sense that Shen and the Soothsayer knew something that he didn't, but Shen gave no answers, instead, he aims a knife in Po's face, shutting him up, and after making exchanges they laugh, and Shen ordered Boss Wolf to fire the cannon at him and the Five. When he tried to light the fuse, however, Mantis was quick to put it out, and attacked Boss Wolf.

This distraction allows the Five to escape their bonds. The Five destroy the weapon while Po goes after Shen himself. Po leaps at him with a battle cry as Shen staggered backwards, pinning him to the floor. Before Po can capture Shen, the pattern on Shen's feathers causes another vision. Po realizes that Shen had been there the last time he had seen his parents. The peacock assured him that he was there. Shen takes advantage of Po's hesitation and escapes. Once again, he is confused and troubled. Po and the Five gathered at the balcony. Having made additional cannons in secret, Shen brings down the Tower with the Five and Po still inside. Po and the Five are blown backward as the cannonballs explode upon impact with the top of the tower. Crane is injured and when Po attempted to help him, he almost fell down a hole of the tower but is saved by Viper and Mantis. They then used the lantern ropes to go down, eventually reaching the floor, with Po landing on Monkey. Po is told by Tigress to focus as he is still distressed. They are trapped but find a higher level of the tower where they then go up as the tower went down, Po being helped by Tigress. Po and the others jump off with some difficulty.

Po confronts Shen in the Fireworks Factory.

Hiding in the prison, Tigress demands to know why Po froze and says the Five will leave him behind if he can't be counted on in battle. The panda at first refuses to confess about his flashbacks, but ultimately relents and tells her that Shen knows what happened to his parents. He says that Tigress probably can't understand, but that he has to know the answer and will confront Shen with or without the Five. Tigress then suddenly hugs Po, much to the surprise of everyone else, and tells him that she does understand, but can't watch her friend die. She tells him to remain with Masters Storming Ox and Croc for his own protection. However, Po decided to fight Shen on his own and confronts him in the Firework Factory, demanding to know about his past, which leads a fight between them and foiling the fives' attempt to destroy all the cannons, allowing them to be captured. While managing to reach out for the peacock, Shen told Po that his parents didn't love him and fires a cannon at Po and sends him flying out of the factory and into a nearby river, where he was seen alive and well, drifted unconscious and badly injured.

Po learns Inner Peace to face his past in his old village.

Po was soon rescued by the Soothsayer who was let go by Shen since she was no longer a use to him and she takes him to an abounded village where she treats his wounds. She revealed that she rescued him so he could fulfill his destiny of knowing more about his past. The village they were in was Po's birthplace, and he begins to remember how his parents were happy to have him, and all the other panda residence were as well while flying kites, until Shen and his wolf army arrived to slaughter all the pandas, Po's birth father managed to defend him from the wolves and order his wife to take their son and run away while he stays behind. Po found his old panda doll that he dropped during the massacre and was told by the Soothsayer not to fight it and allow it to flow. This leads Po into finally learning about inner peace and about his past. His mother putted him in a radish crate for his own safety while sacrificing herself and allowing Shen and the wolves to chase her off without noticing Baby Po. Now that he knows about his past and who he is, Po was saddened about his parents' demise and his species being extinct, but Soothsayer comforted him and said that his story may not have such a happy beginning, but it doesn't make him who he is, it is the rest of his story of who he choose to be, which makes Po remember the day he was chosen as the Dragon Warrior, learned Kung Fu from Shifu, defeated Tai Lung and gained the respect of everyone who praised him as a hero, and must now head back to Gongmen City to save the Five and defeat Shen once and for all.

The Heroes jump into action.

Po returns to Gongmen City, not here for a revenge for his parents and species' disappearance, but to save China and has the Five freed from their chains where they leaped into the approaching wolves and a tremendous battle began in hopes of destroying the cannons so they won't be used to conquer all of China. In the midst of the fight, Po grabbed a wolf and slammed his head on the floor, knocking him out. Later in the battle, Storming Ox, Croc and Shifu, having sensed Shen's earlier attack on Po and coerced the other two into helping, join and, all together, the warriors almost reach Shen. Master Shifu ordered them to use the boats to block the way towards the harbor. After the boats are propelled forward, blocking the harbor gate completely, Po, the Furious Five, Shifu and the two masters leaped off the top in an explosion. They then began their final assault on the army. Po and Shen briefly locked eyes. Shen, however, fires a cannon directly at the group of warriors and blasts them out into the harbor while not carrying if it would hit the wolf army and killed Boss Wolf when he refused to fire the cannon. Before the cannon was fired, Tigress shoved Po out the way, therefore saving his life.

Po uses inner peace to destroy all of Shen's cannons.

Unfortunately, the blockage covering the harbor gate is completely destroyed. Po surfaced and grabbed onto a piece of driftwood, as the remains of Shen's armada sail through the gate and line up at the front of the harbor. Po sees Tigress, lying on a piece of driftwood and swims over to her, gazing at each other. Po looked up and saw Shen's gloating smile from his ship and he gives him a burning glare. He then began swimming off towards the center of the harbor, turning and facing the entire fleet of Shen's army. With his eyes shut, Po began making tai chi movements. Po stopped in the position made just before the catching of the water drop, opened his eyes, and waited. Po closed his eyes as the cannonball rapidly approached, and in his mind, the cannonball briefly took the image of a raindrop. The words 'inner peace' echo in his mind as Po closed his eyes again. He suddenly reached out and catches the cannonball, redirecting it away from him. Adapting the water droplet technique, Po is able to redirect the cannonballs, and uses them to destroy Shen's fleet and main ship. Before destroying Shen's main ship, Po briefly morphed into a fiery Yin Yang symbol almost exactly like Soothsayer's vision. With the last cannon destroyed, Po tries to give Shen a second the chance, only for the peacock to refuse and attack the panda in a blind fury, but ends up being crushed to the death by the last cannon while Po jumps into the water and survives the explosion. With China now saved, Shifu congratulates Po of finding inner peace at last.

Having achieved inner peace, Po arrived at Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop with a crate of radishes under each arm. Po is able to return to his adoptive father Mr. Ping with the confidence of knowing he is where he belongs. His adoptive father runs to him and hugs him, and Po got asked if he saved China, to which Po confirmed. Po affirmed to Mr. Ping that he knows where he came from. Po then declared to Mr. Ping that he was his son. Both father and son share a hug in acceptance of one another, Po telling Mr. Ping that he loves him, Mr. Ping reaffirming he does too. Mr. Ping then offered to cook for Po, but Po offered to cook as well as his way of thanking his father for raising him. But Mr. Ping insisted on cooking and Po then insisted on both of them cooking and they glaze at each other before Mr. Ping insisted on cooking himself and they both laugh as Po and Mr. Ping happily walked into the kitchen to cook. Meanwhile, Po's real father and other pandas revealed to be alive learns that he is alive too.

In Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Po and Monkey are best friends in "Scorpion's Sting". Monkey's mind-controlled to kill Po by Scorpion, but the panda reminds him that they're friends and when that doesn't work, Po then hits him. In "Chain Reaction", Po said that he would like to be friends with Tigress (Kari Wahlgren); he tells her that he "dreamed" of being friends with her since he was five and later, when she goes off on him, he says that she "stinks at the friendship and fun ship." In "Bad Po", it is revealed that Po has a split personality: one is kind, considerate, caring, polite, sensitive, very positive, helpful, hard-working, selfless and compassionate (which makes him "Good Po") and the other one is rude, very negative, lazy, sadistic, unhelpful, heartless, abusive, mean-spirited, selfish, manipulative, mischievous, cruel, uncaring, destructive, misbehaved and devious (which makes him "Bad Po" or "Evil Po"). Both of his personalities have been split when he gets infected by the Mystical Mirror of Yin and Yang. Bad Po blames Good Po for his evil deeds and when one panda gets hurt, the other feels the same. In the end, Good Po makes Bad Po look in the mirror and both pandas are rejoined.

As he searches for them, Master Oogway's narration asks whether there is any real difference between an accident and destiny, thus setting the scene for the story.

Po's scroll contains the names of "Cleaner", "Comedian", "Dancer", and "Doctor", causing Tigress to gather Crane the Cleaner, Monkey the Comedian, Viper the Dancer, and Mantis the Doctor, instead of the assigned warriors. Tigress is impressed by the skills that they demonstrate, and assumes that Shifu will be proud of her. However, once she returns and the mistake is discovered, Shifu becomes angry, disappointing Tigress. As she sulks, Oogway encourages her to be herself rather than Shifu, so she decides to confront Boar. In an epiphany moment, she finally embraces her own style and easily overpowers Boar with the help of her new teammates to defeat him. By chance, Po witnesses the entire fight, thus gaining his passion for kung fu. Tigress returns to the Jade Palace, where Shifu finally admits that he is proud of her, and gives her access to the training room to perfect her "Tigress" style. He also invites Crane, Monkey, Viper and Mantis to stay, deciding that their own styles can also be refined.

Back in the present, Po finds his toys with a bunny boy. While watching the boy play with the same passion that he had all those years ago, Po decides to let the bunny keep them. Po then admits to the Five that his toys are "where they're meant to be", and that, in fact, he already has the "real thing right here".

He also meets the village's best ribbon dancer Mei Mei who becomes attracted to him. While Po was dumbfounded, Mei Mei tried to impress him and flirted with him, much to his unease. She proceeded to wrap him in her ribbons and move him to perform actions that made it look like Po was trying to woo her. Additionally, Mei Mei insisted on showing him how to dance, despite his reluctance, and ended the performance by holding him up in the air wrapped in ribbons, to which the crowd cheered, including his dads. Po still wasn't very good at rolling due to his clumsiness and spending his life being raised by Mr. Ping and learning Kung Fu after become the warrior he is today. Po even learned from his cousins how pandas go uphill, like being blasted in the air from bamboo trees and from a large and fat panda how to do hugs that was very hard that it could nearly break someone's back. Despite not knowing that he wasn't learning anything about master chi, Po had the most fun of his life spending time with his dad and the other pandas and finally learned how to roll like a panda before jumping in the water with the others and Mr. Ping begins to warm up to the baby pandas who reminded him of Po.

Li assured that he will be ready one day, and decided to show himself more. When they entered the house, Li showed Po a picture of his late mother and himself as a newborn baby panda. It was a picture that was done on Po's one hundred day and his mom couldn't hold him still while it was being made and he nearly ate it, much to the father and son's hilariousness. When Po asked what she was like, Li stated that she was the total package, smart, brilliant and had a tremendous appetite and was to love of Li's life until everything was lost when Shen and his wolves invaded their old village and tried to slaughter all the pandas. Po still remembers the time when his mother putted him in a radish crate for his own safety and left to allow Shen and the wolves to follow her to her death. Po was still saddened about his mother's death, and so was Li for losing the love of his life, including when he thought Po went the same way like his mother did, before he found out he was alive. And now Kai was on his way to the village, so Li told everyone to evacuate the village and they must go somewhere safe, but Po urged him to teach him chi after learning his panda training and wonders why Li didn't show him, until his dad revealed that he doesn't know how chi works, nor do any of the other pandas. Realizing that Li lied to him, Po accuses him of abounding him friends and home, but Li did it for his own safety despite the fact that he is the Dragon Warrior, Li didn't wanna lose Po again. Po doesn't know if he could stop Kai and his army, until Li, Ping and the other pandas showed up and reminded him that he could stop Kai unless he had an army of his own, meaning that Po must teach the pandas Kung Fu, but he was still a bad teacher at it, since he could never train the five, until Po got an idea of how he could teach Kung Fu. The pandas must use their own skills and what they're good at to learn about Kung Fu, meaning it could work if they follow Po's lead. While Kai followed the tracks to the village, Po begin to train the pandas and formulates an ambush to stop Kai's army and send him back to the Spirit Realm. When Kai arrives, the pandas got themselves ready while Po goes off the distract him. While being mocked by the Dragon Warrior, Kai sends all of the Jombies to challenge him and Po was horrified of seeing his friends being under Kai's control and a battle between Pandas and Jombies begun. The plan worked and the pandas were doing it defeating all the Jombies. Po apologized to his friends while they are in their Jombie forms and couldn't bring himself into fighting Shifu, so Li and Ping did it. Po saw Kai being beaten while looking through the visions of his Jombies, it was time to end Kai's wrath and send him back where he belongs. Po rolls down to the ice and grabbed one Kai's fingers and attempts to use the Wuxi Finger Hold on him, but nothing happens. Kai mocks and taunts Po about learning that old trick from Oogway and stated it only works on mortals and Kai was a Spirit Warrior. An injured Po apologized to everyone and wanted them to run, but Kai arrives on the top of the village and asks Oogway if Po was the one destined to stop him before preparing to take his chi and all the other pandas. Po looked with shame at his friends and family, believing that it was the end of the race, and Kai taunted Po about thinking he could ever sent him back to the Spirit Realm and says that he is just a stupid mortal. While remembering that the Wuxi Finger Hold only works on mortals like it worked on Tai Lung, Po knew he was right and he couldn't send him back to the Spirit Realm, but instead, he could take him there before jumping onto Kai and uses the Wuxi Finger Hold on himself, sending both of them to the Spirit Realm. When it works, Kai was engaged to be brought back and furiously fights Po before attempting to take his chi and turns him into one of the Jombies. Realizing they must help Po, Li and the pandas must learn chi and embrace Po of teaching them of being something special. The chi works from the pandas and Po breaks free from Kai's chains.

Dressed as a Kung Fu Warrior, Kai asks who he was, until Po asked the same question of being the son of a panda, the son of a goose, a student or a teacher, until Po tells him that he was all of them and is the Dragon Warrior before he creates a giant dragon that he controls and begins to fight Kai with it. Po manage destroy Kai's sword and defeats him easily by dropping him to the ground. Kai said it took him 500 years to take Oogway's chi and will have Po's unless it will take him 500 hundred more, but Po mocks him about it and Kai angrily attempts to launch at him, but Po finally learns master chi and tells Kai if he wanted it so bad, then he should just take it before sending the dragon into Kai's body. When Kai believed that he had won and that the power was finally his, all the Jombies and the chi he stole have fallen off of his chains and he had too much power inside of him that it destroyed and blasted him once and for all. With Kai gone, the remaining Kung Fu masters returned back to the Mortal Realm, but Po was nowhere to be found, meaning he was still in the Spirit Realm.

Meeting Po in the Spirit Realm after Kai was destroyed once and for all, they were both happy to see each other again. Oogway observed that the panda had grown since he last saw him, as he had hoped when he sent the message to Po's father, leading to the two finding each other. He stated that on the first day they met, Oogway saw the future of kung fu in Po, as well as the past, which is the reason why Oogway chose Po as the Dragon Warrior after being healed by pandas 500 years ago. He sensed that Po would be the one to unite them both and become his true successor. He then presented Po with his staff, to which Po was hesitant to accept, but Oogway insisted, humorously stating that he had "a bigger one". Oogway then perched himself on a branch of the nearby peach tree, informing Po that he must be the one to decide whether or not to stay in the Spirit Realm, although he himself was unaware of how to do so, as he had never tried. Though he was unsure of what exactly to do, Po waved Oogway's staff as Oogway watched him teleport magically back to the mortal realm to reunite with his loved ones.

Having emerged triumphant, Po returns to the Mortal Realm with the Staff of Wisdom and before landing on the ground, he was happily embraced by his fathers, pandas and fellow masters and thanked them for saving him. As he greeted Shifu, the latter expressed his pride that the student had finally become the teacher, but got caught off after noticing Po's new staff. Po explained that it was a gift from Oogway, to Shifu's annoyance as he knew he was promoted to become Oogway's successor one day, before asking if Po could teach him, which he happily accepted as he was finally a Kung Fu teacher. Po and his extended family all return to the Valley of Peace, where the Jade Palace was restored and rebuild and they continue practicing their chi, as Po proudly gazes upon his legacy in the spot where his journey began. Po happily watched everyone learn Kung Fu from him, including the other pandas who got used to it, and he and Shifu bowed to each other respectfully before showing everyone how to use chi and it works really well.

Po returns in the new series of the franchise with Mick Wingert reprising his role from the previous series where Po is now known as the "Dragon Master" and must teach four panda children Kung Fu after the universe chose them to become the Four Constellations.

In "Enter the Dragon Master", the panda children Nu Hai, Bao, Jing, and Fan Tong get into an argument after all four of them want to play Po in one of their pretend games. Po himself later arrives in the village to bless a Sacred Peach Statue at the invitation of his father Li, only to find the village wrecked by the children's antics. After gaining the chi of the Four Constellations, the children ask Po to train them, but he initially refuses. However, he is then summoned to the Spirit Realm by Oogway, who informs him that it is his destiny to be the master of the new Constellations. After seeing them in action in battle with Jade Tusk and her warriors, Po eagerly embraces his unexpected new role.

In "Blue Dragon Plays with Fire" Po is seen waking up the panda children while narrowly avoiding their various escapades. Po then brings her and her friends to a new place for them to train: an old and musty abandoned dojo at the highest point in Panda Village. The panda children, barring Nu Hai, are less than thrilled with the horrid state of the old building. Po acknowledges that it's a bit rough but they need to look beyond what they see. Then, he explains that Hero Chi is supposed to go to one master in every generation, so it's unusual that the panda children all got it. He then demonstrates his control over Chi by making a golden dragon themed Yin and Yang symbol in the air. The children are impressed. He then explains to them about the original Four Constellations: White Tiger, Blue Dragon, Black Tortoise, and Red Phoenix. The panda children then get into an argument about who got what hero Chi, which then Po explains that it's impossible to trade their Chi powers with each other.

Some time later Nu Hai and the other panda children lead Po to a newly cleaned and renovated dojo. Nu Hai excitedly shows Po around to all the cool training equipment they added, prompting Po to tell her to "chill" and "focus," stressing the importance of not jumping ahead of herself. Nu Hai agrees and takes a big breath which she then agrees that it helped her feel more focused- but she is still incredibly excited about Kung Fu. Po then attempts to give them basic training in Kung Fu. The panda children aren't terrible but don't excel either. Po congrats them on a good first week. He tells them that he'll do research on the Four Constellations while their at school. Po then goes to Grandma Panda's library to find scrolls on the Four Constellations. Grandma Panda tells him not to eat, make a mess, or do anything weird while she's gone. He rolls his eyes yet promptly slips and makes a mess. Some time later, Po has almost given up on finding meaningful information until he stumbles across a scroll detailing the Four Constellations humble origins. He then gets kicked out by Grandma Panda for making a mess. Po runs across Ping, the goose-messenger, who is surprised that he supposedly got back from Wu-Ran Village, a settlement that was being attacked by bandits. Po is confused and Ping said that his students said that they'd give him the message. Realizing he'd been duped- Po heads out to find them.

Some time later Po arrives at the village and takes out the remaining Yak bandits before expressing his disappointment with the four panda's rash actions. Nu Hai takes full responsibility and tells Po that it was her idea. Po assures her that he'd be way madder if her powers weren't "so awesome." He commends her on her ability to take heat for her mistakes, saying that it's a true leadership skill. Po asks how she was able to control her Chi, and Nu Hai says she just "stopped and took a breath."

Po returns in the new series of the franchise with Jack Black reprising his role from the movies, instead of Mick Wingert reprising his role from the other two series. The series continues the adventures of Po, who now has the title of Dragon Master. Due to his heroism all throughout China, he was greatly loved and revered by everyone including the Emperor himself. Unfortunately, things soon changed after encountering a duo of evil weasels named Klaus & Veruca, which resulted in the destruction of a local village and the theft of an elemental-powered Gauntlet. As a result, Po's popularity and reputation got destroyed causing him to be shunned and hated by the same people who loved him. However, after being given a chance to seek redemption by Wandering Blade, a medieval knight from England, Po embarks on a new journey to restore his reputation and to stop the two weasels, who seek to retrieve 3 other elemental weapons in their goal of taking over the world. Along the journey, other threats emerge; the Emperor sends his guards to apprehend Po while a Mysterious Figure is pursuing Wandering Blade for his own reasons. As Klaus and Veruca escaped, Po, Wandering Blade, this time with the thief Rukhmini and Mr. Ping, set out on a journey across the world to find the remaining Tianshang Weapons before they fall to the wrong hands. However, newer problems and threats would begin to rise along the way.
