Mooned is a 2023 short featuring Vector and Minions. The short made its theatrical debut on December 22, 2023 with Illumination's film Migration.
Plot
The short film begins with a short news clip about Vector and the plot of Despicable Me. After discussing the moon heist from the first film, the news anchor questions where Vector is now. The scene then changes to show that Vector has been stranded on the moon, along with one of Gru's minions. While the latter would like to team up and escape back to their home planet, Vector sets out on his home to search for a way home.
As Vector searches the planet, he finds an old lunar rover, presumably property of the United States government as evident by a nearby flag. Unfortunately, the module is no longer active, forcing Vector to rely on alternative means of reentry.
Through a montage, Vector is seen using several functions of his spacesuit to try and escape. He first tries to blow the suit up like a balloon, which ultimately ends in failure. He then uses his suit's elasticity to try and slingshot himself back into orbit, but ends in quite the same. Finally, Vector tries to use a nearby rover and a large crater as a ramp to launch himself home. However, while clearing a path, his vehicle runs him over several times.
Finally, Vector attempts to use several rockets built into his suit to build a rocket. However, the suit cannot support the weight of all the rockets and falls off. Vector decides to take the detached rockets and attach them to the lunar rover he found earlier to create a makeshift rocket. While doing this, the minion from before approaches Vector and tries to tell him that several of his friends had come to pick him up in Gru's ship, however Vector wrongly interprets this and shoos the minion off.
As the minion takes off in Gru's airship, Vector launches into the air on his makeshift rocket, on course for Earth. However, the two ships collide, causing both parties to crash on a different planet. This planet is Mars, and is populated by alien life. One of the aliens befriends the minions, and tries to befriend Vector as well, however Vector does not return the friendship, calling him a "Martian dork." This leads the alien to leave Vector on Mars, and return the minions home in it's UFO.
Vector is then stranded on Mars without his suit, presumably forever.
