Lance is a male porcupine who is a supporting character in Sing. He is the ex-boyfriend of Ash and the current boyfriend of Becky.

He is voiced by Beck Bennett.

Appearance

Lance is a crested porcupine with a dark blue and azure striped shirt and a black shirt above it, along with jeans and black shoes. Like Ash, he has brown fur and brown and white quills, except his quills are longer. He is a little taller than Ash and Becky.

Personality

Lance is an arrogant and egotistical individual. He is shown to be quite unappreciative of Ash, refusing to listen to her viewpoints. Due to his desire to hog the spotlight, he is constantly critical of Ash and refuses to let her sing lead vocals or write any of their songs, holding her back from her true potential as a rock star. He is also an unfaithful partner, happily willing to cheat on his girlfriend with anyone more appealing to him, which he even says Ash should have expected.

Biography

Sing

It is unknown how long Lance and Ash have been dating, but it has apparently been long enough for them to become close and form a rocker duo.

After failing to land a gig at Harry's Bar, Lance berates Ash for "getting carried away". He insists he is the lead singer while Ash should remain the background vocalist, claiming she ruins his song otherwise. Later on, as they prepare to board a train, flyers for a singing competition hosted by Buster Moon land on their quills. A distracted Ash stops and reads the flyer that states the grand prize is $100,000, causing the train to leave with only a surprised Lance on board. Lance and Ash audition for the contest, but Buster only accepts Ash. She decides to continue participating in the contest despite Lance's protest, and he calls her a sellout even though Ash insists she wants to win the prize money for them both.

The next day, Lance laughs with Ash at the list of songs Buster had given her to select from, which are all pop songs they think are cheesy. Ash declares her desire to write her own song but Lance scoffs at the idea, and tells Ash to just listen to the koala, obviously thinking she doesn't have what it takes to write good rock music, while also showing how little he respects her.

Lance's ego (and apparently his jealously of Ash) is put on full display when Ash comes home to find him singing "Love Interruption" with his new girlfriend, Becky. The two almost kiss before Ash interrupts them, questioning what is going on. Furious, Ash throws Lance and Becky out of her apartment. Lance says it is Ash's fault for not being around anymore, but Ash reminds him she was in the contest for the both of them. After she slams the door on Lance and Becky, he just scoffs and leaves with Becky. Ash later spots Lance singing with Becky at Harry's Bar and runs away upset.

Lance and Becky see Ash on TV performing "Set It All Free" on the news. Becky turns off the TV, scoffing that Ash in her opinion isn't even that good. Lance appears to agree with her, but once Becky leaves the room, Lance quickly grabs the remote and turns the TV back on, apparently enamored by Ash and her performance, hinting that he may still have feelings for her.
